Turbines will ruin region’s countryside, claims boss
Huge swathes of countryside across Shropshire and Mid Wales could be ruined by wind turbines and pylons, the head of the National Trust warned today.
Simon Jenkins claims wind power is the most wasteful way of producing electricity and to allow it to ruin the landscape would be madness.
The chairman of the National Trust launched his attack on wind farms revealing he had driven the length of the upper Severn Valley to see for himself the countryside that he said would be affected by plans to link wind farms with a National Grid’s power line.
National Grid has finished a consultation on which of two sites, at Cefn Coch or Abermule, should house a sub-station to harness electricity from the wind farms.
It has also put forward 10 different routes crossing Shropshire across which a 400,000 volt power line would run.
