Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has disclosed Ethiopia’s desire to become the power pool of east Africa. This came up during talks with Djiboutian President, Ismael Omar Guelleh in Djibouti on Wednesday. After inaugurating the Ethio-Djibouti power interconnection project, the two leaders discussed various issues of regional and bilateral concern. In a joint press conference afterwards, Meles said a bright future awaits the two nations as there are yet other massive infrastructural projects in the pipeline interconnecting them. It is because of its longstanding relations with Djibouti that Ethiopia made it its first choice for the east Africa power interconnection project, he said. Ethiopia has a vision to becoming the major supplier of cheap renewable energy to IGAD member states. President of the Republic of Djibouti, Ismael Omar Guelleh for his part said Ethiopia and Djibouti who currently enjoy sound political and economic relations would continue working together for mutual prosperity. He said Djibouti has made a decision to send peacekeeping troops to Somalia, a move warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. |
