Monday, Oct 10, 2011
The Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) has agreed to rent overhead fiber optics lines to Ethio Telecom for telecom transmissions.
The two organizations reached the agreement after extended negotiations in a bid to expand telecom services.
According to the agreement, EEPCo will allow Ethio Telecom to use high voltage fiber optics transmission lines.
EEPCo has carried out significant upgrades of its high capacity electricity transmission line reducing electric wastage. The new lines employ optical fiber cables that support telecom services as well as power transmission.
The arrangement reached between the electric provider and Ethio Telecom enables EEPCo to earn extra revenue by providing services for Ethio Telecom over the coming years according to Misikir Negash, public relations head of EEPCo.
Ethio Telecom experts explained that the agreement with EEPCo would permit the service provider to increase its services and solve some network problems, which make up an integral part of the general expansion program Ethio Telecom has embarked upon.
